Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) Scan

A Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography, or a CCTA scan, uses X-rays to take 3D images of your heart.

It allows you to see the structure of your heart and how well it pumps blood, and is a valuable tool in treating coronary artery disease (CAD) and preventing heart attacks.

A Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) consists of an x-ray scan that takes images of your heart and blood vessels. It provides additional information on the structure of your heart, how well it pumps blood, any heart muscle scarring, amount of plaque buildup, and more.

How does it work?

During the test, a dye is injected through your hand or arm, and CT is used to produce images from inside the body. The goal is to detect abnormalities in how blood flows through the heart and to diagnose cardiovascular disease.

Both the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology have given the CCTA a Class 1, Level A recommendation, the strongest recommendation for a medical test.
